What would be a good yet inexpensive computer?

I’m looking for a computer that would be able to use high speed internet and be able to play youtube videos and flash cartoons without all the stuttering that older computers have given me, and I’m looking for a computer that can hold a few photos and home videos.

I have some relatives who have purchased DELL desktop computers and have been satisfied.
DELL also sells refurbished computers for about 1/3rd off – but you have to select from what is in their inventory.
I’d suggest as a minimum a 2Ghz intel dual-core, with at least 2GB RAM/memory, decent size hard drive for your applications, and a DVD writer.

Well, if you’re not very practical with computer hardware but just want something good. Go to BestBuy and purchase an HP or Asus in the 600-800 price range.
You can get an Intel dual core 2.0 Ghz , 3 gb of ram, 250gb Hard drive plus a monitor for that price and you will be set for a while.
Just don’t buy any Dells or Gateways since they have been selling junk the past few years.

Dells and HPs have pretty good reputation. However it all depends on what hardware they have inside. As far as hardware pretty much all computers are the same. since they use parts from the same manufacturers. Western Digital, Seagate, Hitachi, hynix Memory, Nividia, ATI, ect.
What I would look for is for a company that gives you good support, and certainly the big ones, like Dell and HP would have better support, than the small companies.
If you are talking in terms of speed and performance… For what you want it for, (surfing the web, holding pictures, playing videos, I would get a low-end (so its not that expensive) Core2Duo CPU computer with a 160GB (or above) Hard Drive.

Dells are good, expensive computers. Just look around different stores (Online is best cause you can get good info). Also some online shops have some good sales going on. Red Mouse Computers has a sale going on. Try there
