How can I look more sophisticated by just changing the clothes I wear?
filed in One Bytes on Jan.21, 2010
I’m 17 and graduated from high school last year. I’m now looking for jobs and starting college pretty soon. I don’t want to look like a little kid when I start college because everyone will be older than me. How can I change my look to be more sophisticated? And can anyone give me any stores to find more sophisticated clothes?

Well to be honest, a lot of college kids just wear pajamas all the time since campus pretty much becomes their home. There really isn’t a big difference in how you dress from high school to college, except that hopefully you have a better idea of what looks good on you. I think the slut factor that everybody tries to pull off in high school (really short skirts, boobs everywhere, thong hanging out) tends to be way toned down by that time too since hopefully you’re a little more confident.
I would suggest shopping places like Forever 21 and Charlotte Russe (if you want to save money AND look cute) for everyday stuff and then going with something from Ann Taylor for job interviews.

Watch What Not to Wear! They talk about that sort of thing all the time.
All I can say to you is to go out shopping and have that sort of attitude in your mind. (Think: "Will this make me look childish or adult-like?) I’d say tie-die shirts are out and mostly any t-shirt besides the ones you go running in. Try dressing to impress. Eventually, being mature will catch on and even if you do look younger than the people in college, at least you’ll feel confident in yourself and the people around you will notice that.

The trick to sophistication is linen, wear as much linen clothes as you can, shows class. Try spiegel.com…I buy most of my clothes from them.

"sophistication" comes from within . . . save the money for legitimate college expenses.

Watch "What Not to Wear" and they’ll give you some good tips from there. There’s also Reitmans, Tommy Hilfiger, CK and they have sophicated, mature clothing. You can go anywhere, really. Check out Sirens because they have some fashionable stuff there (for sophistication too); Forever 21 is cheap and awesome.

high waisted skirts are sophisticated but still trendy you don’t want to look like you’re playing dress up that will make you look younger too. bold but not neon colors will keep it looking young and fresh but polished hair and proper accessories will pull the look together making you look more sophisticated, h&m and forever21 have wide variety and sizes just be sure to go on a day when you have time to search through the racks. ny& co has sophisticated clothes but more pricey then the other two.

Well you can get plain coloured shirts, like layering shirts at Forever21 for really cheap prices. Opt for colours like navy, maroon, cream, darker yellow, heather grey, black, white, pastel colours, etc. It has alot to do with accessorizing, try a simple accessory like a golden, vintage-like necklace. Medium to dark jeans are good also. Hope I helped.(:

don’t wear to much eye make up- it makes you look less grown-up. Also, a nice, plain dress instead of funky is nice. also nothing too short- you look less modest and colleges don’t look for that. Try to sit up a little during an interview instead of slouching. Be confident

wear boots, there casual yet make you taller and sophisticated without wearing pumps that come off to the sluty side. I love boots I have ALOT and its casual yet kinda sexy
Jeans and a pair of some black boots are great, dont get higher then 4" I have 5" boots but only wear them going out. Get some cute purses. Better name brand, kathy van zeeland guess coach chanel. It makes you look more high class sophisticated.
Believe me it will work.
