What can you do to relieve the pain of skin growing against the fingernail?

The skin under some of my nails grows up against the underside of the nail. Sometimes it can be very painful. Any reasons on why this happens and what I can do to resolve it

sounds like an ingrown fingernail
i have had an ingrown toenail many of times and i know just how much it hurts
you have to get the nail cut where its digging into the skin as its most likely a sharp part of nail
i usualy go to a cheropadtist for my toe and he does a very good job
and if it keeps occuring you could just get the fingernail off
