People seem to disagree on this Which is releases more gases/ worse for environment?

Seriously, can someone tell me about how people are dealing with the oil spill in the Gulf? How is the environment going to recover from this? I’d like to hear peoples thoughts on this subject…

I’ve heard plenty of people doing it, but somehow I don’t see how this is legal. Are there ways around it? If it is indeed illegal, what are the consequences?
